JAMES
FRANK PHOTO ADVENTURES
At James Frank Photo Adventures, the
mission is to share through photography an appreciation and respect for
Rocky Mountain National Park and the blessings wild places bestow on
our lives.

James Frank Photo Adventures offers guided photo field
classes year around, with emphasis on the summer and fall seasons. While
learning photography, one can experience Rocky Mountain National Park
with a licensed and knowledgeable photo guide. Participants will be led to a world of nature
offering panoramic views, forest scenes and the activities of wildlife.
A five-hour photo class includes driving or hiking combined with
individual professional instruction. Transportation to and from lodging
and lunch are included. Classes are limited to four participants
with a two-person minimum. Upon request, custom guided, full day photo classes are
available, and can include basic Adobe Photoshop instruction. Please contact us for details and prices.
Reservations may be made by completing an application
form and returning it with a deposit of a minimum of $100. Application forms and
schedules may be obtained by calling or e-mailing James Frank Photography. Reservations
are confirmed upon receipt of a completed application and deposit. Final payment
is due the day before a scheduled field class. Space and
schedule permitting, reservations for five-hour or full day field classes can
be accepted 48 hours in advance of preferred day.
All cancellations must be in writing. We reserve the right to regard your reservation
as cancelled if final payment is not made by the appropriate date. Deposits may
be applied to future classes and workshops.
Field classes and workshops sometimes fail to meet required
minimums. In such cases, James Frank Photo Adventures reserves the right
to cancel a trip entirely or to offer an alternative. If a workshop is
cancelled, you will be notified immediately and all deposits and fees
will be refunded promptly.
Camera formats larger than 35mm are welcome but participants will need at least
a 35mm camera, film or digital, with at least a normal lens, a sturdy tripod,
and plenty of film (3-5 rolls minimum) or digital media for at least 100 hi-res
jpeg or RAW images (approx. 1GB Compact Flash or similar media recommended). Point-and-shoot
digital cameras are also welcome. Print film is OK if that's what you normally
shoot. Slide film or digital is preferred. It is important to have adequate working
knowledge and experience with the equipment you bring. If you are considering
purchasing equipment or have any questions, feel free to contact us for information
and assistance.
Our time outdoors may require a degree of physical stamina and ability to hike
with camera gear at an elevation above 7,500 feet. If possible, schedule your
visit to Estes Park several days prior to the class. Driving field
classes with brief walks to spectacular vantage points are always available.
With only driving between overlooks very little hiking or walking is necessary.
In any event it is important to drink plenty of water and to eat regularly
during your stay in Estes Park, particularly at higher elevations in the mountains.
Dress in layers appropriate to the season. Be prepared for any type of weather
conditions or temperatures – anytime! It sometimes snows in July. Bring
jacket, hat, gloves, sunscreen and comfortable boots.
A workshop or class participant should be able to
walk with camera gear at least one mile daily. However, we don't
always hike. The amount of hiking done depends upon the participants
in the group, weather and desired subject matter. We are happy to cater
to special needs if the group allows. If you have any special physical
or dietary requirements please discuss these with our staff before applying
for a workshop.
